High Road Middle Academy of Washington, DC specializes in serving middle school aged students with learning difficulties. Our program is designed to focus on specific academic strengths, as well as needs, of each student. Each student is able to advance at his/her own pace without the pressure to keep up with a general education classroom environment. Small class sizes, one to one instruction, individualized instruction, a behavior management system, and a positive learning environment are all hallmarks of High Road Middle Academy.

We have added new programs to our curriculum to develop well rounded and well exposed students. This year’s programs include the Gentlemen’s Group to go along with the White Gloves Group. Each group is gender specific, both groups engage in teen related discussions along with life skills coaching and practice. Group members meet twice a month.

Our transition coordinator, Ms. Vanessa Collins has started the year off on a great note. Ms. Collins takes seven students every Friday to participate in various community based projects. These projects include Washington DC animal shelter where they take an active role in caring for the animals, Christ House where they feed the homeless along with Washington DC Metro adopt a stop where they maintain and engage in beautification project for a DC metro bus stop. These initiatives bring students together to participate in a variety of service projects and educational events over the course of a semester (spring, summer or fall). By engaging youth in this type of service learning program, we hope to facilitate and inspire a lifelong commitment to community service, increase the awareness of social issues in the community, and empower students to become advocates within the democratic process all while making a difference in the community.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

High Road School welcomes you back from the summer and we hoped you had a wonderful summer and are ready for another exciting school year. This year High Road has adopted the District of Columbia’s Public School Dress Code/Uniform rulemaking that was enacted on March 5, 2009 by the City Council approval and Mayor’s order.

We are excited to require the dress code policy and maintain compliance the local school district. The Student Government Associations at our schools have also strongly supported this transition.

Please request a student shirt order forms, which require your completion, payment and submission to us as soon as possible. All students are required to wear the High Road for short sleeve or long sleeved and khaki bottoms to school on a daily basis.

Parents, Guardians thank you for the continued support and we look forward to another great school year!
