The High Road Academy (HRA) of Washington, DC, is a specialized school for students with learning disabilities. Our school offers a small-group setting, one-on-one instruction, behavioral supports, and individualized education programs for each student. Our classrooms range from 10 to 12 students and are led by a certified teacher and a teaching assistant. On staff we have a reading specialist who works closely with the reading and English teachers to monitor progress of each student. Our teachers use programs such as Corrective Reading and Read Naturally along with the core curriculum to enhance our students’ academic progress.

Within the classroom or through pullout, our students have access to a range of related services that include speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and individual and group therapy provided by a licensed social worker. All related service providers work on goals that are specific to student needs.

HRA offers two tracks for our students: the Diploma Track and the Certificate Track. Diploma Track students have to complete 24 Carnegie Units in order to receive a high school diploma. HRA has a fantastic staff certified to teach in all content areas in order for students to reach their fullest academic potential. Our students work closely with their transition specialist to focus on their plans after high school. The Certificate Track program includes our wonderful DC-PACT (DC Professional Academy of Careers & Technology) program that offers many job prep courses. Students take math, reading, job preparation, and life skills courses to work on all of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. They also have access to specific vocational training in such fields as: culinary arts, graphic design, networking, video production, automotive, carpentry, barbering, cosmetology, and  child care. Both the diploma and the certificate curriculums are accompanied by supplemental educational materials and experiences, including guest speakers, special events, field trips, and on-site job experience.

The HRA staff is passionate about the work we do every day, and our dedication is proven through our students' success!
