Mike’s current position as President of S.E.S.I. followed a series of advancements through integral roles within the company’s various High Road Schools. Prior to joining the Kids 1 team in 1998, he accumulated extensive experience in the fields of education, social work, and clinical psychology in one impressive position after another, including Director of Student Counseling for the three facilities comprising Rutgers Preparatory Schools; Clinical Therapy Supervisor for a special education institution in Whippany, NJ; and Crisis Intervention Director for a K–12 public school district. He has also lent his expertise to such social service organizations as the Boys and Girls Club of America in Newark; the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Lyons, NJ; Alternatives, Inc. (teaching life skills) in Somerville, NJ; and the Center for Cognitive Rehabilitation (for head-injury patients) in New Brunswick, NJ, home to his alma mater, Rutgers University.
But one accomplishment at a time isn’t Mike’s style. In addition to a full-time work schedule while he was earning his Ph.D. in psychology, Mike simultaneously acted as the Head Psychological Evaluator for the whole of Rutgers College for over five years. He has continuously taught graduate-level courses at both Rutgers University and Baltimore Community College, and he dedicates his spare time to such altruistic endeavors as American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, and Big Buddy promotional events. Most recently, he was among a very distinguished group of select candidates to successfully complete the prestigious Key Executives Program of the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
Furthermore, Mike has been refining his public-speaking talents for over a decade now, leading numerous seminars on a wide range of topics, presenting workshops to independent corporate clients, making guest appearances at special events, and even hosting his very own radio show, “The Dr. Mike Show,” a part-advice/part-talk show program that aired weekly in Maryland until his latest promotion caused him to relocate. Mike has also been a guest on 92.3 K-Rock, one of New York’s largest radio stations, as well as a featured guest on News 12 New Jersey.
New Jersey’s largest newspaper, The Star Ledger, named Mike an “Extraordinary Person” in a feature article in 1996, a title that not only captures the essence of his past accomplishments, but one that is proving to be an accurate forecast for his future as well.
