After graduating college, the desire to work with adolescents and have a meaningful and challenging experience led me to accept a teaching position in a self-contained classroom for students with emotional disturbance at North Myrtle Beach High School in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The enjoyment that I received from the daily challenges and successes in working with these students motivated me to pursue my certification in special education.
After gaining years of invaluable classroom experiences and receiving my certification, I moved to Maryland and became the Associate Director of the High Road School of Clinton in Clinton, Maryland. This position allowed me to gain valuable experience in leadership and supervision in education.
To further increase my knowledge in the field, I enrolled in a M.Ed. Special Education Program at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
In January 2004, I was appointed Director of the High Road School of Prince George’s County-High School (formerly known as the High Road School of Clinton) and a year later I received my Masters degree.
In June of 2005, I accepted the position of Chief School Director of the High Road Schools of Southern Maryland. In this current position, I am responsible for overseeing the operation of five of our programs serving students with emotional disturbance, specific learning disabilities, mental retardation and autism. I monitor and support our region’s academic and behavioral programs, ensuring compliance with company, state, and federal policy. I have also established a “region-wide vision” to promote positive educational experiences for our students and improve their school and post-school outcomes, as well as the continued professional development of our staff.
Currently, I am in the process of completing my Administrative Certification through Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
